The final leg of the KZNTR Winter Series concluded at  Aloe Wildlife Estate in Camperdown on Sunday. The event saw a record-breaking number of runners taking to the picturesque trails of this exquisite venue and, as the sun rose over the beautiful bushveld and single-track, spirits were high at the start line.

The Aloe Wildlife Estate trail run featured a 6km, 13km and 20km route option, ensuring that all levels of fitness were catered for. In the 20km race, things were hotly contested as a number of speedsters took on the fast, relatively flat course.

the men’s race was dominated by Mdumiseni Zondi, who finished in first place ahead of Wonderboy Mngadi and Phumelele Baqwa respectively. The  women’s race saw Nonsikelelo Mbambo finish just ahead  of Lisa Daniel and Lauren Calenborne.

A key aspect to the 2017 edition of the winter series has been the festive atmosphere. Each event of this three-part series has featured a prominent element of family fun, something that has become key to the trail running community. Adding to this is the dramatic increase in participants over the years, giving testimony that the sport is thriving locally.
