The KZNTR Summer Series Faulklands Farm Trail Run took place on the 5th of November 2016 in slightly wet conditions after storms the previous evening spread around KZN. The 7km, 14km and 22km courses were laid out across the beautiful Faulklands Farm overlooking the uMngeni River outside Pietermaritzburg. The two longer courses plunged down into the valley and crossed the river twice – a very adventurous course kept runners on their toes. The 7km course traversed the clifftops looking into the Valley. The rain stayed away for the race and all runners were treated to spectacular hospitality on the farm, enjoying Exploring Coffee food and drinks before and after the event and many runners collected great giveaways sponsored by Bush & Bundu. The long (22km) course was won by Muzi Madikwa in a time of 1:40:09, followed by Innocent Nyawose (1:49:59) in his first ever trail run, and in 3rd place, Blair Thompson (1:51:15). In the ladies, Kim Wesbrook (2:07:22) took the win over Tracy Zunckel (2:10:39), which was a slight surprise – Zunckel gearing up for Skyrun in 3 weeks’ time. Jessica Kew completed the podium in 2:12:14. This was the first event of 3 in the KZNTR Summer Series, the next taking place on top of Table Mountain (PMB) in two weeks’ time on the 19th of November 2016.
