The Dirtopia Trail Run Challenge was held from Uitkyk Wine Estate on Sunday,10 April. It drew almost 600 runners from all over the Western Cape for the three routes on offer: 25km, 15km or 9km.

Local top runner, Stuart Marais walked away with the prizemoney in a magnificent time of 1:49:12 and Kate Arnott was the top lady over the line.

There is a trail run or two every month in the Simonsberg Conservancy organized by Dirtopia, who’s head office is based at Delvera farm near Stellenbosch.  After the Simonsberg fire in January, the trail team has reconstructed most of the damage and this was the first run event held on the trails, named as The Fire Run on social media.  All routes had magnificent singletrack trails built by Meurant Botha, with the routes also traversing though the famous neigbouring wine farms of Muratie & Delheim with rewarding views.

Runners could choose if they wanted to be timed or not, and results can be found on www.trailtag.co.za  Neil Swanepoel and Jonathan Black took the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively and in the ladies Rose Buchanan and Marisa van der Merwe was second and third. All runners received medals and refreshments and free winetasting!

Next event is the Autumn Trail Run taking place from Knorhoek wine farm on the 24th of April, but entries will be limited! New trails will be run once again with a 11km and 6km on offer. Medals to all finishers.
