On Friday the 1st of September, Ryan Sandes will be lining up to run the CCC (Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix), the 101km race which forms part of the annual Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB) Festival of Running. Since its inception in 2006, the CCC has climbed from being the “little sister of the UTMB” to becoming a unique race that is one of the most prestigious in the world, boasting a significant 6100m height gain over the course of the race.
“I am really excited to be heading back to the Alps to take part in the CCC, the sister race to Ultra Trail Mont Blanc, which has become the biggest ultra trail race in the world,” says Ryan Sandes. “After having achieved my dream of winning Western States in June this year, I would like to focus on getting a good result at UTMB in the future.”
Sandes has chosen to the run the CCC, the shorter race, and not UTMB this year due to how close the event was to Western States. “I don’t feel that doing two 100miler races so close to one another is ideal for recovery, so I chose the shorter route for this year, which will also give me a nice opportunity to get to know parts of the UTMB course for future races.”
The CCC has been integrated into the Ultra-Trail World Tour since the beginning of 2017, giving competitors another option to choose from on the international race calendar.
