After having to pull out of UTMB earlier this year due to tummy issues, Ryan Sandes has proved he is back and a force to be reckoned with after his 4th place finish at the 2016 Raid of Reunion 100 miler yesterday. Ryan finished in a tied 4th position with Maxime Cazajous in a time of 25hrs23min31sec. The race was run by fellow Salomon athlete Francois D’haene in a time of 23hrs44min57sec, second place went to Antoine Guillon in a time of 24hrs15min22sec; and third place to Javier Dominguez in a time of 24hrs36min24sec.

Quote from Ryan:

“The Raid of Reunion is one of the toughest, if not THE toughest race I have ever run. The route is crazy technical with huge climbs. The course is incredibly beautiful with some awesome views from on top of the mountains. The people on the island go crazy during the race! Running into some aid stations and media wanted to do live interviews or even get autographs signed! It was really a unique experience.

I was really happy with my race as I felt very calm and relaxed going into it. I made a few mistakes during the race, but on the whole it went according to plan. My legs were smashed for the final 30km so that was bit of a grind. I definitely think I will come back to this beautiful race now that I know the course a bit better. It’s epic!

Thanks so much to my dream givers and everyone who has supported me on my journey. It’s time for a few weeks of rest and recovery before looking forward to 2017.”
