SUMMARY:Pick n Pay Goukamma Traverse 2017
DESCRIPTION:A well-marked\, long (19km) and a shorter\, very scenic\, flat 5.5km trail run for families\, youngsters and walkers. \nThe 19km Pick n Pay Goukamma Traverse will start remotely in Goukamma Nature Reserve. It traverses the reserve from east to west and finishes at the Sedgefield Village Green. \nThe 5.5km Family Fun Trail Run will start and finish from the Sedgefield Village Green. It takes in the scenic fishermen trails and prolific birdlife along the edge of the Sedgefield Lagoon. Dependent on the tide\, it could be wet underfoot. \nThe pristine and spectacular Goukamma Nature Reserve\, a Cape Nature Reserve to the East of Sedgefield\, is a secret gem and trail runner’s paradise. \nThe Pick n Pay Goukamma Traverse starts from the Goukamma River pont on the Eastern side of the reserve and will take runners along single and jeep track. You will run through ancient dune systems\, pristine steep and flat sections\, cool Milkwood forests and a flourish of fynbos giving you spectacular panoramic views of the ocean to the south and some of the inland vleis and lakes to the north. DNF will be applied for littering. \nWith the Slow Festival being all about stepping away from the mad rush\, the rat race\, watching the clock\, the constant buzz and crowds of bigger cities and towns\, the Pick n Pay Goukamma Traverse epitomises the enjoyment of running in nature.  \nGetting to the Pick n Pay Goukamma Traverse      \nDirections:  Approach Goukamma Nature Reserve from the Buffels Bay Rd located off the N2 between Sedgefield and Knysna. Travel 8km. Turn right (blind turn off) into Goukamma Nature Reserve as the lagoon/sea come into view. \nStart: Park near the information office. Follow the dirt road and signage to the registration area. Once registered\, groups of 30 people will cross the Goukamma River on a wide pont for the remote start on the Western side. [GPS – 34°03.860 S / 22°56.529 E].
