What a race Ultra Trail Cape Town turned out to be today, with race winner and defending champion – Prodigal Khumalo – taking the top place and smashing the sub10 hour record. Ryan took 2nd place overall in a time of 9hrs56min – just 5min after Prodigal! Third place went to New Zealand trail runner, Scotty Hawker.

Comment from Ryan:

I am super chuffed with how today went to run a sub 10 hours 100km trail run, but most importantly it was amazing to run at home with such great crowd support along the entire route, which makes it so much more meaningful. It was a really tough day for me, I really battled with my legs on the climbs, so it was a really tough one for me. I might possibly have gone out a little too fast on some of the technical sections early on, but that was part of my strategy to try and stretch out the Comrades runners a bit. In a nutshell I am super happy and great to end off the year with such a bang!
