RYAN SANDES, Vanessa Haywood and Elana Meyer re JAG
Dear Vanessa & Ryan
Thanks so much for your unbelievable contribution to impact the lives of youngsters on the JAG Runners programme through what you have done over the last 2 years and specifically the camp/ race of the weekend ! The greatest giving is often that of time and we truly value it! Thanks also for all the supporting sponsors that made it possible !
During the exciting times of the Olympics I always reflect and think of those people I met throughout my life that paved the way for possible achievement.
Thanks for your contribution into the lives of those young runners
Many thanks to you all! Warm regards Elana
"After nearly two months abroad it was really inspiring and rewarding to put on a JAG Runners camp with Vanessa Haywood. Despite the really cold weather conditions all runners were very enthusiastic and excited to get out onto the trails of the Franschoek Mountains. The Salomon Bastille Day 12km trail run was lots of fun and the JAG Runners put on a really strong showing despite just about all of them having never raced further than 5-8km before. Thanks to all the camp supporters for making the camp happen and I can't wait for the next one!"
"A couple of months ago Ryan asked me if I'd like to host a JAG Runners camp with him. It was a no-brainer! Having been an ambassador of the JAG Foundation for a few years now, I jumped at the chance! The organising was intense and there was a lot to do but the smiles on those 18 teenagers and 2 coaches faces this weekend made every single minute of hard work worth it! It was cold, muddy and wet but nothing deterred these feisty young athletes and they bought tears to my eyes when they thanked me with a bunch of flowers and a very special card at the end of the camp.
The JAG Foundation touches the lives of many young people in a way that most of us will never quite understand. Most of them are desperate to get out of violent gang controlled areas and live better lives, and the foundation is a catalyst to that freedom they so desire. Thank you so much to the JAG Foundation for all the work you do to uplift these children and for the support you give to all the coaches!"
Ryan Sandes and Vanessa Haywood have teamed up with the JAG Foundation to host another of their very successful running weekends for 18 kids. This year things will be slightly different for the kids as they will be taking part in the Franschoek Bastille Celebrations and instead of just doing training runs will all be able to run with Ryan and Vanessa in the inaugural 10km Salomon Bastille Day Trail Race on Saturday the 14th of July.
The kids all members of the ProNutro JAGRunners programme, a running initiative implemented by the JAG Foundation to empower and equip youth in disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape will spend the night in Franschoek with Ryan and Vanessa. After running the race on the Saturday morning they will then be able to spend the rest of the day enjoying the Bastille Day celebrations and festivities before going home. It is so inspiring to spend time with these talented runners for me the best is how they never complain that they are too tired or things are too hard, they just get in there with such enthusiasm. It is really nice to give back to a sport that has given me so much over the past few years, says Ryan
