Tuesday, 08 May 2012 Salomon Bastille Day Trail Run Entries Open - Franschhoek Festival
Launched in 2011 and celebrating the French revolution, croissants and fish net stockings, this sold out event now has a French sponsor in Salomon - the guys that make our best trail running shoes.
As the races (12km+; 22km+ and new 35km+) take place in a wilderness and mountainous region, entries are limited.
Note -12km + for beginner to intermediate (includes juniors 16 - 19); 22km + for intermediate to experienced; 35km + for experienced hardcore pornstars (trail stars) only! (Cut offs in place, ie please enter the event relevant to your ability).
This no-frills event is a true trail run, with river crossings, mud, technical tracks, tough ascents and alpine scenery.
In 2011, each course had an optional extra few kays of bundu bashing - a challenge most runners took on. We are exploring extra action for this year.
As the base camp venue - The Berg River Dam - lends itself to families having a blast, we have added the kiddies bush tour - guided running fun. Non running Moms or Dads are welcome to join in this fun jog.
Franschhoek is going nuts with the Bastille Festivities of wine tasting, French cuisine and a festival atmosphere - all to be enjoyed after the running event.
Entry Fees for the races are the same as 2011, BUT, we have added a donation to help keep the trails in shape (R50 for the short and medium, R100 for the 35km).
You will be advised on race day how your money is spent. Thank you in advance! (Two Oceans Trail raised R35 000, Table mtn Challenge is aiming at R40 000 and Bastille Day should crest R20 000 - almost R100 000 in one year!)
Salomon Tech Tee Shirts are optional at a cost of R125. The value of these shirts is R295. Merely select the right entry category with Tee shirt included.
Prices: Kiddies Jog - R50; Short Race 12km+ R175; Medium/ Long Race 22km+ R245; Hardcore XXX Race 35km+ R395. Add R125 for a shirt to these prices.
What is this 12km+ story??? The plus sign + is the unknown quantity of how many km's we are going to add, following our recce work. In 2011, this + represented an optional 3km of extra fun and games.
