Mountain Warrior (Event Only)

Online entries closed. On the day entries will be available.

The Terrain:

The trails start and end on jeep-tracks, but have a lot of single-track up and over ridges, through fynbos, vineyards and open fields. The trails are at high altitude so expect changing weather.

Getting There:

Rustenberg Wines is on Rustenburg Road, just off Helshoogte Road (R310) in Stellenbosch. (www.rustenberg.co.za)

  • GPS Rustenberg Wines: S33° 54’ 40.7" / E18° 53’ 19.0"

The Trail:

The Mountain Warrior trails follow the very best paths high up where the Hottentots Holland and Jonkershoek mountains meet to form rough peaks and deep gorges with stunning views of Stellenbosch and Cape Town in the distance below.

The long route on Day One must be rated as one of the most challenging and breathtaking on the trail running calendar as it winds its way through the famous Stellenbosch mountains, right beneath the iconic Two Peaks and over Botmaskop, finishing at Rustenberg Wine Estate.

Day Two is run on the steep foothills of Simonsberg, winding through many vineyards, fynbos and fun single-tracks in areas only accessible during this event. It is not quite as technical as Day One but more than a challenge on legs already wobbly after the big mountains of the previous day.

The Event:

This two-day stage trail run festival’s routes will take participants on the slopes and contours of the Stellenbosch and Simonsberg mountains. It is split into a long distance course, Mountain Warrior Challnge, covering a total of 66km, with 36km on day one and 30km on day two. Participants can also opt for shorter distances ranging from 15km per day and an even shorter option on the Sunday. The shorter options are easy for 80% of the run. The 10km night run will take place on the Saturday evening, and promise to be an event for the adventurous by heart.
