The 35km off-road route around Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain poses a gruelling challenge for experienced runners, and is sure to attract top athletes from around the world as the event continues to grow. Runners negotiate fynbos footpaths along the mountain slopes, traversing indigenous forest, crossing mountain streams and scrambling along steep cliffs. A team format allows less experienced runners to compete too, with legs varying in distance from 8 -17km. Kloof Nek (easy access, big car park, well known). 7.00 for 7.30am (it means arrive at Kloof Nek car park at 7.00 ready to start the race at 7.30am, coffee will be on sale).
Below Tafelberg Road , via Deer Park to the path below the Blockhouse on Devils Peak , all jeep track, lots of up, not much down. (approx 8.6km) Transition for Relay Runners. Leg 2 - From Blockhouse style , contour path to Constantia Neck, passing above Kirstenbosch.
(approx 10km). Transition for Relay Runners. C/Neck, short cut through Orange Kloof (unique, requiring special permission), to
Myburgs Path, to Suikerbossie, up Llandudno Corner, along the top of the 12 Apostles to Kasteelspoort, down to Pipe Track and home to Kloof Nek. (approx 17km).

The idea of having 3 legs in the race is to encourage relay teams ? either corporate or family or just teams of 3 runners keen to do only part of the challenge. There will be a sweep runner and a cut off time in place at Constantia Neck. We recommend that you train on the route and get to know it before the Challenge date. We will provide a map. You are not allowed through Orange Kloof (only on Challenge Day), but may check out Myburgs path from Suikerbossie and the confusing section from Llandudno Corner to Grootkop.
With thanks to Peter Slingsby for use of map.
Registration has moved from Kloof Nek (the race start point on Sat am) to Cape Storm HQ in Wynberg, at 45 Lester Rd: Teams on Wed 10th, Solos Thurs 11th, from 5 - 7pm, for race numbers, goody bag, t-shirt collection, special discounted kit and briefing.
